Why a normal eye exam doesn't catch this
20/20 describes how clearly your child sees a letter across the room. It says nothing about whether their eyes can work together, hold focus up close, or track a line of text without losing the place.
Those skills aren't part of a standard screening. They are what a developmental vision evaluation measures.
What vision therapy actually involves
It isn't glasses, and it isn't surgery. Vision therapy is a structured program that builds the visual skills reading depends on — the same way physical therapy builds strength and coordination.
Your child works with a therapist in our office, usually once a week, with short exercises at home. Sessions are active and hands-on. Most children find them more like games than schoolwork.

Meet Dr. Knapp
I started my career as a vision therapist before becoming an optometrist — the therapy room is where I learned what these problems look like and what it actually takes to fix them. For more than 20 years since, and the past four right here in Fair Lawn, I’ve specialized in developmental and neuro-rehabilitative optometry.
Whether it’s a child whose reading doesn’t match how bright they are, or an adult recovering from a concussion or stroke, my job is to find what a standard exam misses — and build a plan to fix it. You can learn more about my background here.

If you work with children who are bright, motivated, and still struggling with reading or close work — or with patients recovering from concussion — a developmental vision evaluation may identify something a standard screening won't.
We coordinate with occupational therapists, educators, and other providers throughout care.
Insurance and Payment Plans
At PressVision, we know how confusing insurance can be for our patients. Our patients appreciate that we go the extra mile when it comes to helping our patients and their families deal with their insurance provider.
Making Insurance Make Sense
We will explain how your deductible works. We'll also explain what services are fully or partially covered. We'll also tell you what services are unlikely to be covered. Based on our experience, we'll even give you our estimate of what you can expect back from your insurance company.
Insurance Submission
We also take care of submitting all required paperwork to your insurance company. We do this every day, and we know the ins and outs of getting insurance claims submitted properly to your insurer.

Insurance providers are always changing coverages for services. While we can't guarantee that your insurance company will approve or cover all provided services, you can be sure that we will fully explain everything to you and properly submit all required paperwork to your insurer.
